In 2006 Liz Clark decided to quit her bartending job in San Diego and embark on a journey to sail around the world. This adventure was helped along when she was given a Cal 40 sailboat on the condition that she document her wild adventure across the globe. After a few years she was feeling lonely, so in 2013, Clark adopted a 6-month-old kitten to be her sailing companion.
Clark says that the cat has adapted just fine to living surrounded by water at all times. The fuzzy little girl is named Amelia, and she helps fish from the boat and enjoys taking the occasional journey on land with her owner for hikes and long beach walks. The cat seems just as comfortable in her seaborne home, named Swell, as her human companion does. This odd couple pairing has traveled together along the western coast of Central America as well as around the entire South Pacific.
